According to the census bureau the median home price in metro Atlanta is $171,346. The vast majority of homes in Atlanta are in the $100,000 to $199,000 range. (See page 25 of the report.) Surveys show that Americans are conservative in their preference of exterior house colors. Thirty-four percent prefer white and another twenty-eight percent prefer a shade of beige. (I have read similar results from a Sears national survey, but I have only found second-hand references to it.)

If you think you might sell your house before painting again, it would be best to select a color that appeals to the broadest group of potential buyers. Choosing a color that has limited appeal may reduce the number of people that will even consider your house.

Here is an usual approach for turning your home into a profit center: rent out your home by the day for use in a movie or television commercial. It won't work for many, but it is certainly an "outside the box" idea.
